What format are Stanza by Fictionwise titles in?

Stanza by Fictionwise titles are delivered in .pdb format. The Stanza application can read both unencrypted and DRM-encrypted .pdb titles. All eBooks at Stanza by Fictionwise can be viewed using the Stanza application, as well as using the eReader application.

How do I access my Stanza by Fictionwise account?

Throughout the site, you can select the link at the top of the page called "Account" (right by the shopping cart on top). Once you are signed inb you can use this link to access your account.

To sign in as a Returning Customer, use the email address and password you used when you first created the account. Or, if you had made updates to the original values, then use the newer values instead.

You can sign in from any computer, e.g., from home or from work. Just remember to use the email address and password from your Stanza by Fictionwise account; you don't have to use the email address assigned to the computer you are using.

Credit Card Questions
How do I make a purchase with a different credit card number?

To make a purchase with a different credit card number, you first need to log into your account, edit your credit card information and then save the changes. Afterwards, you can continue your eBook shopping and purchasing with your new credit card number.

What are the instructions on editing your credit card information?

Once a card is in our system, it cannot be modified for security and integrity purposes. Any changes will require you to create a new card, even if it has the same number.

Can I use something other than my credit card number to unlock my eBook in my handheld or computer?

No, only your credit card number along with your cardholder name (as it appears on your credit card) will unlock your eBook in your handheld. This is done to protect the publisher's copyright. Your credit card number is not stored on the device and is only used to unlock your eBook.

Is my name and credit card number stored on my handheld or computer after I unlock an eBook?

No. Your credit card number is used only to unlock the eBook and is not stored on your device.

I received a message that my credit card could not be approved for my purchase. What should I do?

There are two possible scenarios that can cause this error message:

When you created your account, you may have entered your name, credit card number, credit card type and/or expiration date incorrectly in the credit card field. If either is not exactly entered as it appears on your card, your transaction will be rejected. To ensure your information was entered accurately, log into your account and verify all of your credit card information. Then try to repeat your purchase. If you continue to get the same error message, you may need to contact your card issuing bank.

Some international credit cards cannot be processed, in which case you may need to inquire with your card-issuing bank.

One-time-use credit cards are currently not accepted.

What is your refund policy?

All eBook sales are final. Extreme situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

What are the steps in Secure Checkout?
  1. SIGN IN: If you are a new customer at Stanza by Fictionwise, select "Create Your Account." Fill out the form and select "SAVE." You will be signed in to Your Account. If you already have an account, then you only need to sign in as a Returning Customer. (The Sign In process is skipped if you have already signed in.)
  2. Review the Stanza by Fictionwise User Agreement and select "Yes" or "No." If you agree and selected yes, you will be shown your Shopping Cart for confirmation.
  3. Confirm your personal information before selecting "Purchase." You can edit the individual sections if necessary: Billing Name & Address, Credit Card, and Reader Platform. Make sure after making any changes that you "SAVE" your changes to return to the final confirmation page.
  4. Select "PURCHASE."
  5. This will bring up the Download page. Make an exact note of the "Purchaser's Name" and "Unlock Code" in the lower-right green box. You will need this information at a later time to unlock your eBook on your handheld device.
  6. Select "Download" to receive the zip file. Choose the "Save this file to disk" option and click "OK."
Your Wish List

Your Wish List is a great way to earmark the eBooks that you would like to purchae in the near future. Simply click on the "Wish List" on the product page of the book you desire. This information will automatically be stored in your account. You can also add comments and remove the title as well.

THE STANZA BY FICTIONWISE STORE:
How often are new eBooks added?

We add several hundred titles to our store every month and usually release the titles on the same day as the print pub date. To see our latest titles, go to the New Release section, which is updated daily.

How are Stanza by Fictionwise eBooks priced?

Our eBooks are typically priced less than or equal to the list price of their paper counterparts. Our eBook prices are also less than online prices of their paper counterparts, when you consider shipping costs. We "buy" eBooks from the publisher, just like your local bookstore does, and we add to that the cost of developing our technology and running our web site.

The only cost to you is the purchase price of your eBook. Once purchased, you can download your eBook as often as needed at no charge. There is no charge for using the free Stanza software.

How to browse and add to your shopping cart?
  • Browse our eBook selections until you find an eBook you would like to purchase.
  • Select the eBook-cover image or linked title. This will bring up the web page for this particular eBook.
  • You can also see what customers who bought this book are also buying, read reviews, read an excerpt, or purchase book bundles.
  • When you are ready to make your purchase select the "Add to Cart" link located right beside the eBook cover image. This will bring up your Shopping Cart page with your selection added to the shopping cart.
  • To remove an eBook from your shopping cart, click the "Remove" link.
  • To continue to browse and shop for more eBooks, select "Continue Shopping."
  • To proceed to the checkout, Select "Go to Checkout."
What is the Stanza by Fictionwise newsletter mailing list? How can I subscribe or unsubscribe to it?

Sent twice a week, the newsletter contains announcements, a list of our best-selling eBooks, mini-reviews, new releases (Tuesday's newsletter) and special deals (Thursday's newsletter). This newsletter is the best way of staying current on what's going on at Stanza by Fictionwise.

To subscribe, select the "Newsletter" link on the bottom of the home page. This will bring up the Stanza by Fictionwise Newsletter Opt=in page. Enter your email address in the appropriate box, select either Subscribe or Unsubscribe, and then select Submit.

Do you offer titles in Spanish, French and German?

We offer titles in English only. However, Stanza supports the Latin 1 character set which supports most Western European Languages. These include French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Click here for additional and updated information.

What exactly is OTA?

OTA stands for Over the Air. The new version of Stanza is equipped with OTA technology. This allows you to browse, purchase, and then download eBooks directly to your device. This means you no longer have to connect to your computer to shop for new eBooks.

What is required to use the OTA feature?

If you'd like to take a look at the catalog or perform searches to see what titles are available at Stanza by Fictionwise, you only need a working WiFi or cellular connection and the latest version of the Stanza application. Click here to get the latest version of Stanza. To purchase eBooks it is required that you already have an account setup with Stanza by Fictionwise, including a credit card on file. If you would like to set up an account, you can do so by logging in here on your computer.

In my cart, I see a space to enter a coupon code. What is a coupon code, and where can I get one?

From time to time we will run a special promotion requiring a coupon code. The code will be available either through our newsletter or on the site near the top of the every page.

I've purchased a book, but when I try to download it I get a "Response from Server Timed Out" error.

Some eBooks can be quite large and depending on the speed of your network connection it can take an inordinate amount of time to complete the download. If you'd like to try the download again, you can login to your account's online eBookshelf through Stanza's Online Catalog.

How do I delete my eBooks from my iPhone or iPod touch?

In the Stanza application, go to Book » Delete, select the book you wish to delete and click the "Delete" button.

I can't log into my account. My email address or password is not recognized.

Either you are entering an incorrect email address, an incorrect password or both. If you are unable to access your account, contact us, and we will be happy to examine your account, reset your password, and then send you a confirmation email.

I can't create an account. I get a message that my email address is already in use.

Either you already have an account set up and you are not aware of it, or you are trying to set up a second account. Even if you have not purchased anything from Stanza by Fictionwise, you may be in our database as an existing customer. In that case you can sign in as a Returning Customer.

If you continue to have problems, please contact us at customer support, along with a description of your assistance needs.

My modem disconnected in the middle of a purchase/download. What should I do?

Check to see if the purchase transaction went through. If the transaction was completed, then we emailed you a receipt with instructions in how to download your file; there is no need to purchase the eBook again. Please check your email or simply sign into your account and review your eBookshelf in your account.

If your purchase is among your "owned" eBooks available for downloading, simply click on the corresponding download link and download your eBook from your account.

If your purchase is NOT amongst your "owned" eBooks available for downloading, then the purchase transaction was not completed and you will need to try to purchase your eBook again.

The eBook is missing pages or has non-legible characters. Why should I do?

This may be due to a corrupt eBook file. Sometimes during downloading, files can get corrupted.

Delete the eBook file from your handheld and desktop PC.

Log into your Stanza by Fictionwise account and download a fresh copy of your eBook.

Install the eBook to your handheld and see if there is any change to the eBook appearance.

Why can't I sign in to my Stanza by Fictionwise account?

(NOTE: The following explanation assumes that you already have an existing Stanza by Fictionwise Account. Receiving a newsletter from us does not necessarily indicate that you have an account.)

The password or email address that is on your account is different than what you're using to sign in.

If your email address has changed since you originally created Your Account (because of moving, changing jobs, etc.), your Stanza by Fictionwise account still has your old email address. Even if you are no longer using the old email address, you still need to use it to sign in to your account at Stanza by Fictionwise.

After you sign in to Your Account, you should check, and update if necessary, important details: email address, password, credit card number and expiration date, telephone number, etc.

If you continue to have problems accessing your account, please try the password help web form.

How do I get my password if I forget it?

In case you forget your password we can give you a hint or reset your password, provided that you chose to take advantage of these features when you created your account.

How do I get my eBook unlock code if I no longer have that credit card number?

You can update your unlock code in your personal eBookshelf. Select the option to "RESET... Unlock Code to current credit card number." Then re-download and install the eBook, unlocking with the handheld information.

NOTE: You must have made a purchase with the current credit number for the unlock code update to take effect.

How can I change my Credit Card to unlock new eBooks?

The first is to buy more eBooks with your new credit card. Once you have made a purchase with a new credit card, you can log in to your account and reset the unlock code on your previous purchases to be the new credit card, then download the eBooks again. In this case, a new purchase is required to verify the new credit card number.

Your second choice, if you do not wish to purchase additional eBooks at this time, is to reply to this message with a phone number and time of day when it will be convenient for us to call you and provide you with the old number over the phone. For security reasons, we cannot send credit card numbers through email.

How do I change my password?
  1. Log into Your Account.
  2. Click the "EDIT" button for Password.
  3. Enter your new password in both fields.
    (Your password must be at least 6 characters.)
  4. Click the "Update Account " button.
  5. You have now changed your password.
  6. You will also receive an email confirming the change.
How Do I change my account information?
  1. Log into your account.
  2. Click the "EDIT " link next to the appropriate section.
  3. Make the required changes to your account information.

How Do I merge two or more accounts?

If you have two or more accounts and would like to consolidate them, you can send a request to Customer Support. Please specify which one of your accounts you would like to have as the remaining active account.

Can I move eBooks into a new device?

On Stanza by Fictionwise, all of your eBooks are stored on your account and can be downloaded as many times as you wish. Just as long as your new device supports our software, you may download your eBooks onto your new device.

No. You can re-download your eBooks from your account anytime you need to, to any number of supported devices.

If I lose my eBooks, will I be charged for another download?

No, you can download your eBooks from your account as often as needed.

When will my favorite eBooks be available?

Soon, we hope. We are working with many publishers to bring their eBooks to press. To request a title, please contact us and select "title requests", or send your request directly to Stanza by Fictionwise. Please note that we receive dozens of requests every day and will not be able to answer every customer's e-mail. However, we are keeping a list of every single title request and communicate these preferences to the publisher directly.

Why are you promoting this particular author, book, and genre?

I was wondering how long it takes for a book that was previously released in hardback to reflect a price change once it is released in paperback?

Generally, the publishers do tell us when a book is scheduled to be downpriced. Obviously we try to downprice the eBooks as soon as we can but with over 14,000 titles, some eBooks do slip through the cracks. Plus we need the publisher's permission before we can downprice on the site.

Some of my favorite authors do not appear or are published with big delays. Why?

We do try our hardest to get these titles to our customers on pub date. In some cases, publishers do not intend the eBook to be released as the same date of as the print version.
